Martial Art

Place: Home
Time: Unknown
Date: Unknown (Few Years Back)
Dad: Edwin, you should go learn Tea Kwon Do
Edwin: Dad, I don’t wanna go. Everyday saw them so the warm up on floor. It’s dirty.
Dad: But you can protect yourself next time. I’ll pay for you the fee and so on.
Edwin: Don’t want. I rather do other stuff. [Other stuff mean lim teh (have drinks in Hokkien)]

My dad keep asking me to join Tea Kwan Do (or martial art because my secondary school only have one). He told me that I can protect myself next time. I ignored him but I’m regret now. After entered uni life, my walking alone means fear for me. There’s even people get rob inside the campus. What actually happen to people nowadays? Now I’m going to learn one for self protection. Martial arts below are in my consideration.

Kung Fu(Chinese martial art)

It’s from China. My grandpa is practicing it when he’s young. I think everyone know Wong Fei Hung (a great hero in China with his popular “No Shadow Kick”) and Bruce Lee (who spread the greatness of Chinese martial art).

No Shadow Kick

Chinese martial arts describe the enormous variety of martial arts styles originating in China. It’s evolutes from one dynasty to the next one. Keep on improving until now. The style can be categorized by location, as in Northern and Southern. Each place has it own techniques such as Wing Chun from southern.

Tae Kwon Do
Kick on face

Originate from South Korea and now become one of the most widely practiced martial art in the world. Kicking is the most important and the style also very interesting. I ever saw one guy being knocked off with just one kick when I’m on duty as PBSM. I’m not sure the guy is pretending coz scared of the competition. The ranking starts with white belt to the black color.

Kickboxing

There are many kinds of kickboxing. For example, Muay Thai(Thailand Kickboxing), Adithada(Indian Kickboxing and American Kickboxing. There are special rules in every type of kickboxing. Kickboxing actually refers to sport-fighting using kicks and punches and sometimes throws and bows representing a certain martial art or can be practiced for general fitness, or as a full-contact sport. When fighting, it requires a special glove (it’s so cool).

After few day considerations, I finally made my decision.

A fighter call 'Bai'

I don't choose Tea Kwon Do because I still want my balls.

It's hurt.

I'll never choose wrestling just simply because it's kids game.

P/s: I have to pay RM60 for training fees and another RM110 for my glove. I'm going to have instant noodle this month. There is no free lunch in this world :)
